Who Am I in Christ? – Accepted by God
We all have a deep desire to be accepted by others as humans. We want to know that we are accepted and valued for who we are. Unfortunately, we live in a world where acceptance can be difficult to find, and we frequently feel as if we don’t measure up. As Christians, however, we have the incredible privilege of being accepted by God. We will look at what it means to be accepted by God in this devotional, using Romans 15:7, Ephesians 1:4-6, and 1 Peter 2:10 as our guides.
John’s feelings of rejection
John is a young man who has struggled with feelings of rejection and inadequacy his whole life. He’s always felt like he didn’t fit in and that he wasn’t good enough. These feelings have led to a lot of anxiety and depression, and John has been searching for a way to find acceptance and belonging.
In Christ, we are totally accepted by God.
Romans 15:7 says, “Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” This passage reminds us that we are called as Christians to welcome and accept one another in the same way that Christ has welcomed and accepted us.
Ephesians 1:4-6 says, “Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love, he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.” This passage reminds us that through Jesus Christ, God has chosen and adopted us into His family. He accepts and loves us because of His grace and love, not because of anything we have done.
1 Peter 2:10 says, “Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” This passage reminds us that we are no longer strangers to God’s family and have received His mercy.
Just as I am – accepted by God.
Charlotte Elliott’s hymn “Just As I Am” speaks to the acceptance we can find in Christ. The lyrics remind us that we can come to Jesus with all of our fears and doubts and be accepted and loved.
Some of the lyrics include:
“Just as I am, without one plea, But that Thy blood was shed for me, And that Thou bid’st me come to Thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.”
Find true acceptance and belonging in Christ.
We can find true acceptance and belonging in God as Christians. Nothing can separate us from His love because He chose us and adopted us into His family. May we always remember that we are called to welcome and accept one another in the same way that Christ has welcomed and accepted us and that we can come to Him in our imperfections and find acceptance and love.
