Who Am I in Christ? – “Loved”

“But God demonstrates his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” – Romans 5:8

One of the most important things we can know as Christians is that we are loved by God. His love for us is beyond measure and has been demonstrated in the most profound way possible through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In this devotional, we will explore what it means to be loved by God, using Romans 5:8; John 3:16; John 13:34; 1 John 3:16; and Deuteronomy 7:6-9 as our guide.

Sarah’s struggles with loneliness and insecurity

Sarah is a college student who has been struggling with feelings of loneliness and insecurity lately. She’s been feeling like no one cares about her and that she doesn’t belong anywhere. These feelings have been weighing heavily on her, and she’s been searching for a way to find meaning and purpose in her life.

God went to great lengths to show His love.

“But God demonstrates his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us,” says Romans 5:8. This passage reminds us that God’s love for us is based on who He is, not what we have done. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life,” says John 3:16. This passage reminds us that God loves us so much that He sacrificed His only Son to die for us.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you are to love one another,” says John 13:34. This passage reminds us that we are called to love others because we have been loved by God. “By this we know love,” says 1 John 3:16, “that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.” This passage reminds us that true love is self-sacrificing and that we are called to love others as Christ has loved us.

According to Deuteronomy 7:6-9, “Because you are a holy people to the Lord your God. Out of all the peoples on the face of the earth, the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession. Because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath he swore to your fathers, he has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt.” This passage reminds us that God’s love for us is based on His character and promises, not on anything we have done.

The Love of God is greater.

“The Love of God” by Frederick Lehman is a hymn that speaks of the boundless and incomprehensible love of God. The lyrics remind us that God’s love is greater than anything we can imagine and that it reaches beyond the highest heights and the lowest depths. Some of the lyrics include:

  • “The love of God is greater far
  • Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
  • It goes beyond the highest star,
  • And reaches to the lowest hell.”

Find your security in God’s love.

As followers of Christ, we can rest assured in the knowledge that we are loved by God. His love for us is so great that He sent His only Son to die for us, and nothing can separate us from His love. May we always remember that we are called to love others in the same way that Christ has loved us and that God’s love for us is not based on anything we have done but on who He is.
