One year ago today, on June 26, 2025, Amy received the incredible gift of a living donor liver transplant.
As we reflect on this past year, our hearts are filled with gratitude. We want to thank each of you who has faithfully prayed, encouraged us, sent cards, written messages, and walked this journey with our family. The body of Christ has surrounded us with love in ways we will never forget.
By God’s grace, Amy’s transplanted liver is doing very well. We are deeply thankful for the skill of her transplant team and, above all, for God’s sustaining hand throughout this entire process.
The journey, however, has not been without challenges. Following her transplant in June and discharge in July, Amy was readmitted to the hospital in August, September, October, and November. She also continued to experience significant difficulties related to her anti-rejection medications throughout November and December. Those months required patience, perseverance, and many more prayers than we could count.
Thankfully, since the beginning of 2026, the Lord has continued to answer those prayers. Working carefully, her transplant team has been able to adjust her medications, and Amy has steadily improved. One visible reminder of that progress is the number of medications she now takes. At one point after transplant, she was taking 17 different medications each day. Today, that number has been reduced to approximately seven, and we are grateful for each step forward.
We also often think of the anonymous living donor who made this possible. We still do not know their identity, but God does. Over this past year, we have continued to pray for their healing, their family, and God’s richest blessing upon them. Their extraordinary act of sacrificial love forever changed our lives, and we will never cease being thankful.
We would appreciate your continued prayers as Amy prepares for another surgery on July 29. This procedure is intended to repair some ongoing issues that have caused pain and discomfort since her transplant. While no one looks forward to another surgery, we are actually encouraged because it represents progress. Amy has recovered well enough from her transplant that the doctors are now able to perform this procedure, and we are hopeful it will improve her quality of life moving forward. She will likely spend about three days in the hospital, and we expect to remain in the Philadelphia area for about a week afterward.
As we look back over this past year, we are reminded once again that God has been faithful every step of the way. He has sustained us through moments of uncertainty, setbacks, victories, and answered prayers. His grace has been sufficient in every season.
Thank you for walking alongside us throughout Amy’s Journey. Your prayers have been one of God’s greatest gifts to our family. We are deeply grateful for each of you.
With love and gratitude,
James
