Sermon Guide: “The Primacy of Christ’s Body”

The Primacy of the Church: Sermon Guide

The following blog post contains notes and application questions from our October 7, 2018 message, The Primacy of the Church.

Summary

Jesus loves to ask questions. One researcher found that Jesus asked 307 questions in the Gospel and was asked 183 questions of him. The same researcher found that Jesus answered only 3 of those questions.

In this sermon, we hear two of the questions that Jesus asked in the Gospel (who do people say that I am? But who do you say that I am?). Peter answered with the church’s great confession and then Jesus shared that based on that confession and the foundation of the Scripture He would build His church.

Teaching through Matthew 16:13-20, Pastor James speaks about the Church. We see:

  • The Church’s Confession
  • The Church’s Foundation
  • The Church’s Security
  • The Church’s Authority
