Is the World Out of Control?
Counseling Through the Psalms
Psalm 2
Do you ever wonder why there is so much anger and hatred in the world? The world seems so out of control. The anger at the things of God and the people of God seems to be ramping up day after day.
According to a Christian website, in just the last year, there have been:
- Over 340 million Christians living in places where they experience high levels of persecution and discrimination
- 4,761 Christians killed for their faith
- 4,488 churches and other Christian buildings attacked
- 4,277 believers were detained without trial, arrested, sentenced, or imprisoned.
People are defying God and attacking His people.
Psalm 2 speaks to some of these themes. The theme of kingship is found throughout the psalms. At times, the psalms speak of human kings; at other times they speak of the Divine King. In this psalm, we see the weaving of those two themes.
In addition, we hear of the hostility of the nations of this world that they display towards God and His King.
In Psalm 2, the Psalmist warns the leaders of the world to give up their rebellious plans against God and his anointed king. In addition, the Psalmist urges the world’s leaders to submit to the authority of the King, who God has anointed to rule over the nations.
