Day 10: Finding Joy in the Journey
Scripture: Nehemiah 8:10; Psalm 16:11
Devotional:
Depression often robs us of joy, leaving us feeling numb or detached from life’s blessings. However, the Bible teaches that joy is not dependent on our circumstances but rooted in God’s presence. Nehemiah 8:10 reminds us, “Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” This joy is not the fleeting happiness the world offers but a deep, abiding joy that sustains us even in trials. It is a strength that lifts us when we are weak and a light that shines in our darkest moments.
Psalm 16:11 further reveals the source of this joy: “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” True joy is found in God’s presence. When we draw near to Him through prayer, worship, and Scripture, His joy fills our hearts, driving out despair. Depression may tell us that joy is out of reach, but God’s Word tells us it is fully available through a relationship with Him.
Finding joy in the journey involves celebrating small victories, expressing gratitude, and remaining hopeful for the future. It means choosing to see God’s goodness, even in the midst of pain. Each day, take a moment to recognize where God is at work in your life. As you do, you will find that joy is not only a destination but also the strength that carries you forward, one step at a time.
Action Step:
Write down three things you are grateful for today. Reflect on how God has been faithful, and allow gratitude to cultivate joy in your heart.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the joy that comes from Your presence. Through Jesus Christ, help me to find strength in Your joy, even when depression tries to steal it. By the power of the Holy Spirit, fill my heart with hope and gratitude. Amen.
