Emotions: A Gift from God to Guide Our Healing
Emotions are often seen as unpredictable or overwhelming, but they are, in fact, a gift from God. God created us with the ability to feel, and our emotions play a crucial role in understanding ourselves, our relationships, and our spiritual walk. Rather than seeing emotions as something to suppress or avoid, we can view them as valuable tools that reveal the state of our hearts and guide us toward healing.
In Psalm 34:18 (ESV), we are reminded: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
God doesn’t shy away from our emotions. He meets us in our brokenness, close to our hearts when they are hurting. Our emotions reveal our need for God’s comfort and healing. They show us where we are broken, and in those places, He is ready to heal us.
God has given us emotions not to overwhelm us, but to help us process our experiences and respond to the world around us. Emotions can serve as a mirror, reflecting what is happening deep inside. When we experience feelings like sadness, joy, anger, or fear, they often point us toward deeper truths about what we value, what we fear, and what we need to surrender to God.
In Proverbs 4:23 (ESV), we are told:
“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”
Our emotions are tied to our hearts, and guarding them by bringing them before God can lead to healing and growth. When we allow God to work in our emotional struggles, He transforms our hearts and leads us on a path of restoration.
