“Counseling through the Word” Devotional: I am a Light to Others
Scripture: Ephesians 5:8-9 (ESV) – “For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true).”
Before you came to know Christ, you walked in darkness, unaware of the truth and lost in the shadows of sin. But now, in Christ, you are no longer in darkness—you are light in the Lord. This transformation is not just a change in your status; it’s a change in your very nature. As a child of light, you are called to reflect the goodness, righteousness, and truth of God to those around you.
Devotional Thought
Light has a powerful influence. It exposes what is hidden, guides those in darkness, and brings warmth and life. As a believer, you are called to be that light in the world. Your life should shine with the love, grace, and truth of Christ, illuminating the path for others and pointing them toward the Savior.
Ephesians 5:8-9 reminds us that our walk—our lifestyle—should reflect the light of Christ within us. This means living in a way that is consistent with who we are in Christ, demonstrating His goodness, righteousness, and truth in our actions, words, and attitudes. It’s not enough to simply avoid the darkness; we must actively pursue the light and let it shine through us.
Being a light to others is not about drawing attention to yourself but about reflecting Christ. As you walk in the light, others will see the difference in you and be drawn to the hope and truth that you carry. Your life can be a testimony to the transforming power of the Gospel, offering a beacon of hope to those who are still lost in darkness.
Bringing it Home: Applying What We Learned

- Live Consistently: Make sure your walk matches your talk. As a child of light, live in a way that is consistent with your identity in Christ.
