Scripture Reading
Psalm 103:1-5
1 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
3 who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
5 who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Devotional Thoughts
Verse 2 instructs us to NOT forget all his benefits. This reminder comes because we are forgetful human beings. While we forget many things that are of little importance, the things of God are crucial and so we must make every effort to remember.
From this passage we are told to remember:
- that He forgives sin
- that He heals our diseases
- that He has redeemed our lives from the pit of hell, which we would have inhabited were it not for His grace
- He crowns us, THINK ABOUT THAT! The High King of Heaven crowns you and me with love and compassion
- He satisfies us with good things.
If you aren’t already in the habit of keeping a gratitude journal, today is the perfect day to start and here is the perfect way to start– list the benefits of being a Jesus follower. And those good things He has satisfied you with–write them down. Acknowledge Him as the giver of all your good gifts.
