Who Am I in Christ? – “Forgiven by God”

One of the most incredible aspects of the Christian faith is the forgiveness we have received through Jesus Christ. No matter what we have done or how far we have strayed from God, we can find forgiveness and freedom in Him. In this devotional, we will explore what it means to be forgiven by God. This biblical devotional on forgiveness in Christ will explore Romans 8:1, Ephesians 1:6-8, and Colossians 1:14.

Sarah was living in persistent guilt:

Sarah is a young woman who, when she thinks about her life and the choices she’s made in the past, is filled with regret for those choices. Sarah’s life serves as an example of this regret. She has made a number of attempts to move on from the embarrassment and feelings of guilt that she has been going through, but she just can’t seem to get it to work out the way that she wants it to. Sarah has a deep desire to be freed from the burden of her past and to be able to be secure in the knowledge that she is forgiven completely. This is one of her most heartfelt desires.

What does Scripture say to help Sarah?

Romans 8:1 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” This passage reminds us that when we are in Christ, we are no longer condemned for our sins. Because of His sacrifice on the cross, we are forgiven and set free from the guilt and shame of our past. Ephesians 1:6-8 says, “To the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him, we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us.” This passage reminds us that God has freely given us forgiveness through Jesus Christ, and it is a demonstration of His incredible grace and love for us. Colossians 1:14 says, “In whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” This passage reminds us that our redemption and forgiveness come through Jesus Christ, and it is something we have already received when we put our faith in Him.

Not only hear God’s Word but sing these truths:

“Amazing Grace” by John Newton is a hymn that speaks to the forgiveness we can find in Christ. The lyrics remind us that no matter what we have done, we can find forgiveness and redemption through His grace. Some of the lyrics include:

“Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind but now I see.”

Bringing It Home:

As Christians, we can find true freedom and forgiveness in Christ. No matter what we have done or how far we have strayed from God, we can find forgiveness and redemption through His grace. May we always remember that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus and that our forgiveness is a demonstration of God’s incredible love and grace for us.
