Merry Christmas!
2020 has been a challenging and painful year for so many. It is one of those unusual periods when it is as though almost everyone that you will come into contact with is experiencing the same thing you are. There is a unity, and a community feel.
Now, I know we do not all agree in the midst of this global crisis. However, we are all being impacted by it in some way.
I know many people who have lost family members and friends this year. Many others are separated from their family members because of this crisis. So Christmas is going to be profoundly different and a potentially painful day.
It seems as though when you watch the news, it is full of darkness and despair. Fear, anxiety, and stress abound.
So what is the answer?
We need light for our darkness. We need hope for our hopelessness. We need help with our helplessness. We need a peace that transcends understanding. We need an unspeakable joy.
2000 years ago, a baby was born who would transform our world. Truly God became truly man. God made flesh. The Creator, the Sustainer, and the Rightful End of all praise became one of us. Jesus was sent to earth on a rescue mission. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary. He came to save His people from their sins. He would live a perfect life, die a substitutionary death, and rise victoriously from the grave. He ascended on high and is at His Father’s right hand interceding for His people. King Jesus will come one day in glory and judgment.
Jesus came into a dark world and brought light. He came into a world full of lies and deceit and brought the truth. He came into a world of destruction, and He brought peace to those who would believe in Him.
So, I encourage you, before you open presents and eat a meal or turn on a game, take some time to remind yourself once again of the great gifts God has given you in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the gospel of His amazing grace, and worship Him.
We, at Lessons for Life, pray that God richly blesses you and yours this Christmas season.
By His grace and for His glory!
