How can you deal with temptation?
This podcast taken from James chapter 1 describes our experiences when we are tempted.
We learn from James 1:2-16, that every event in your life is either a trial to grow your faith or temptation that will hinder it.Â
What determines the difference?Â
You do.Â
You choose to go vertical to God for His wisdom and strength. Or, you decide to go inward to self and horizontal to others.Â
Where you turn makes all the difference?
We will speak to a five-step pattern to sin:Â
- It begins with an evil desire of the heart
- The mind gets dragged away
- The emotions and affections are enticed
- Sin is born in the will
- Sin produces deadly consequences.
Where is our hope amid temptations?
- Remind yourself of the character of God
- Remind yourself that Christ was tempted in every way that we are, yet He did not sin
- Remind yourself of the indwelling Holy Spirit, who seeks to enable you to say “No” to sin
- Remind yourself of your identity in Christ.
- Remind yourself daily of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.Â
Question to Consider
Does it give you the confidence to know that God has empowered you so that you do not have to fall to sin?
